Help Equality Ohio Win $25,000!

Equality Ohio is working with 9 of our partners to win funding in the Chase Community Giving contest. Equality Ohio could win $25,000 alone, and a quarter million dollars could go to statewide equality organizations to help fight for LGBT equality. Vote for our slate today by visiting this webpage!

EO to Deliver 80,000 Petitions and Host Town Hall

In late October a 15-year-old teenager was severely beaten in his high school class room for being gay. The attack occurred at Unioto High School in Chillicothe, Ohio, and was caught on camera as fellow class members watched one teen wait for the victim to enter the room, push him to the ground and continually punch him in the face. On November 16th, representatives from Equality Ohio will be delivering over 80,000 petitions to the school district's superintendent urging the district to protect LGBT students. Later that evening, Equality Ohio is hosting a town hall that will feature a moderated panel discussion about Bullying in Ross County. Click here for more details.

DALN & NewLeaf Columbus

The Digital Archives of Literacy Narratives (DALN) is proud to partner with NewLeaf Columbus and Equality Ohio for an amazing narrative collection event! The DALN is a publicly available archive of personal literacy narratives in a variety of formats (text, video, audio) that provide a historical record of the literacy practices and values of contributors. The DALN is committed to collecting the narratives of a wide-range of people, with a desire to capture the experiences of minority and marginalized communities. The DALN is partnering with NewLeaf and Equality Ohio to collect your stories on Saturday, November 19th, from 1 pm to 4pm. Come share your story!

5th Annual Allies for Equality

Equality Ohio's annual Allies for Equality event honors an individual who has provided leadership and commitment to our vision of an Ohio where everyone can feel at home. This year the Equality Ohio Education Fund board and our Honorary Event Chairs, Rocky & Suzy Saxbe and Jim Elliott & John Behal acknowledge the work of Loann Crane, who has tirelessly and passionately advocated for the LGBT community. We will gather from 6pm to 8pm on December 7th at the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in the Palm House. Past recipients of the Allies for Equality award include Janet Jackson, Mary Jo Hudson, State Representatives Dan Stewart & Ross McGregor, and Barbara Klass Sokol. Tickets are $100.  Click here to register.

Trans* Day of Remembrance

The Trans* Day of Remembrance is held in November each year to memorialize those who were killed because of anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. Although not every person represented during the Day of Remembrance self-identified as trans*, each was a victim of violence based on bias or prejudice against transgender people. Below is a listing of events being held around the state. Equality Ohio encourages you to attend and show your support to our transgender and gender non-conforming community members. Events are being held in Columbus, Cincinnatti, Cleveland, and Dayton.

Volunteer Spotlight

The reason I come to Volunteer night is because I believe in an Ohio where everyone is free to be, free to love, free to work, and free to live. As someone who was bullied in school I believe it’s my duty to make things easier for the next generation. I volunteer for EO because it's an organization that doesn't just talk about doing something we do it. Volunteering isn’t something at EO that is burdensome-- it's an evening with friends that makes a difference for LGBTQ in Ohio. That’s why I volunteer.

Everyone deserves to feel at home in Ohio.
