Tuesday morning we asked you to send a message to members of the House Judiciary Committee asking them to support House Bill 630. As of writing this email, 300 supporters took action - setting a record at Georgia Equality for the highest number of responses to an online action alert! That means every single member of the committee had an inbox FULL of 300 messages from HB630 supporters.
While 300 is a good number, it is only 0.1% of LGBT Georgian's! if we want to pass any pro-equality legislation on the state-wide level, we must do better. IMAGINE what we could accomplish if we even had 1% participation.
IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO TAKE ACTION.
Recap of the Hearing
HB630 is assigned to a subcommittee within the Judiciary Committee, and one that we consider to be quite
conservative. On Tuesday, we provided testimony that included members of the legal, state college/university, and business communities, and provided very useful and compelling information to members of the committee, while our opponents presented outrageous lies and inaccuracies about our community. It was within the power of this committee to vote down the bill - they did not. They voted to "table" the bill, which means they are able to reconsider it after additional review. You may remember, in 2010, our anti-bullying bill was tabled and later that year the Governor signed it into law. Passing HB630 is not going to be easy, but we are making steps in the right direction. We absolutely consider Tuesday's hearing to be a small victory for all Georgian's who believe in fairness in the workplace.

This legislation is not going to pass overnight. We need for you to stay engaged as we continue to have conversations with lawmakers and present them with the facts. Some of them are seeing and hearing this information for the first time and they are becoming more open to really listening. We will continue to send you information and strategic Action Alerts as this bill moves through the process.
Please stay tuned.....and stay engaged!
