  • Transgender Day of Remeberence

Transgender people face violence and discrimination every day in America. Simply walking down the street requires a courage unknown to most. Far too often, harassment escalates to violence and serious injury results. When reported, often the victim is blamed and the culprit’s prejudice is reinforced.

On Nov. 20 we remember Rita Hester, a transgender woman whose murder shook the LGBT community to its core and transformed the way people across the country respond to violence. Thirteen years later, the annual remembrance has grown and the resulting Transgender Day of Remembrance is observed worldwide.

Equality Alabama is advocating for a fully-inclusive hate crimes law in Alabama. Lacking protections for gender identity and expression, Alabama’s existing law overlooks those most at risk. We can no longer ignore bias-motivated violence. The law must include "sexual orientation, gender identity and expression" or it's no law at all.

Please help pass Hate Crime reform.

  • Teens Gotta Feel Safe!

    October 20th is Spirit Day!

Wear purple because "teens gotta feel safe." Growing up is hard enough; students deserve safe schools so they can be who they are.

Wear purple to make a difference. Let a young person know that you care and want bullying to stop!

Wear purple if you expect more... more from: schools, parents, more from ourselves, and our LEADERS! Join people from across Alabama to tell the State Senate that safe schools should include ALL of Alabama's students.

Act now. Sign the petition below and add your voice to the public outcry! Do it now to make a difference. Please take a minute to complete then click "share" above to ask your facebook friends to do the same.

We will remind you again that we must all step up and tell the Alabama State Senate that "teens gotta feel safe." They can fix the anti-bullying law that forgot the kids most at risk. The policy must include "sexual orientation, gender identity and expression" or it's no policy at all.
